Facilities
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, is the major clinical affiliate and teaching hospital of Weill Cornell Medical College. It's New York Weill Cornell Center, is an 824-bed facility centrally located in a highly sophisticated medical community surrounded by the Hospital for Special Surgery, the Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Rockefeller University. The number of specimens are as follows: autopsies, 131; surgical pathology specimens, 86,433; frozen sections, 4,289; cytopathology specimens, 56,740; laboratory procedures, 4,834,571.
Community
The Medical Center is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood along the East River in Manhattan within walking distance of Central Park and the midtown entertainment and shopping areas. The major museums, concert halls and opera house are close by.
Stipends, Housing and Benefits
In 2011-2012, first-year residents receive $51, 736 per year; second-year residents, $54,435. Living quarters are available for single and married house staff in NYPH maintained apartments adjacent to the medical center. All residents are covered under New York Presbyterian Hospital benefits program, which includes professional liability insurance, hospitalization and uniforms.
Applications
All candidates must apply to the program, using the AAMC (Association of American Colleges) ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System) website. Candidates must be graduates of approved medical schools in the United States or Canada, foreign medical graduates must posses a valid ECFMG (Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certificate and valid visa. New York Presbyterian Hospital only sponsors J1 visas. July 1 is the start date for residency training. For US graduates contact your Dean's Office to apply via ERAS, international medical graduates, please contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Office to utilize ERAS.
